Professional Management

Professional management means effectively working to coordinate and manage a team to work towards a goal.

It requires the team members apply their personal skills, knowledge, and techniques to meet the assigned business requirement. The management involves planning, scheduling, and controlling all of the activities. Three concepts include perfect planning, process phases, and management.

Proper and sufficient planning leads to smooth execution and early delivery. Jumping into execution without proper planning will often result in a downward spiral of issues, defects, and rework. Road map for planning:

Writet down the business case. We must fully understand the problem going to be solved through the project and expected benefit to the business. Writing down the business case is the foundation of the planning.

Establish objectives. Objectives should be driven by business cases and ensure the complete problem is resolved if the objectives are achieved.

Set expectations with stakeholders. Identifying all stakeholders and understanding their expectations is important for all projects.

Kick off the project. The main purpose is to let everyone be aware of the project, what support it needs from them, and when we need the support.

Prepare a project management plan. A good project management plan provides clear guidance for the management team, like schedule, risk register, communication plan etc.

Clearly understand the project phases and make sure all team members understand the part of the process they are responsible for and during which phase the activity should be performed. Normally we have four process phases:

Initiative process

In this phase, the project is approved and brainstorming occurs to find the best available way to complete the project;

Executing process

In this phase, team members carry out the activities to complete the project;

Planning process

In this phase, we define the objectives and goals of the project and refine in order to ensure the goals are achievable and realistic;

Wrap up process

This is the final process for a project, the project manager is responsible for wrapping up the entire process when the project comes to the end.

Project management occurs throughout a project to ensure it is on track to be completed by the deadline.
